Water Saving Measures at Mimosa Lodge

Taking a two-minute shower, flushing only when necessary, and reusing towels and linen may be an inconvenience, especially when travelling, but the alternative of no water at all is something that the Western Cape community is working very hard at to avoid. While Montagu has not been as hard-hit by the drought as the city of Cape Town, the Route 62 town also has water restrictions and residents and travellers alike have been called upon to make all necessary efforts in order to preserve this precious commodity.

“We have implemented a number of water-saving measures at Mimosa Lodge to ensure that our guests still enjoy their holiday while being water-wise at the same time,” says Fida Hess, proprietor of Mimosa Lodge in Montagu.

“Our staff has been trained to implement water-saving measures in all areas of the hotel. We have replaced all linen napkins in our restaurant with disposable Airlaid paper napkins, and have removed all face cloths from the rooms and replaced them with disposable ones that require only the smallest amount of water. We have also removed all bath plugs. Towels and linen will only be changed on request,” says Fida. She adds that the swimming pool is still operational and is being filled with irrigation water which is safe for swimming.

“In an effort to maintain our beautiful gardens, we have installed a 30 000 litre dam which will be used to recycle all the laundry waste water and then used to irrigate our garden. We are fortunate in Montagu to have a network of brackish water that can be used and we have an hour slot on Mondays which we use to flood irrigate the garden and also capture the overflow in the dam,” explains Fida.

Guests are also encouraged to do their part and save like a local by cutting their shower time to two minutes, turning the tap off while washing hair, soaping and brushing teeth, and only flushing when necessary.

“We’re doing all we can so that our guests can still come and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of Montagu and Mimosa Lodge,” says Fida.

Working Today for a Better Tomorrow: Scheduled maintenance of the restaurant floor from 26 June 2018 to 18 July 2018. The restaurant remains open and there will be minimal impact on our guests. Certain sections will be cordoned off and all work will be conducted between 10h00 and 16h00.
